  题目:

Should we complain to get what we want?

Sometimes, a simple solution happens to be the most effective one, so that people tend to simulate the children’s trick of making noises in order to make their needs and desires heard and satisfied. However, as to significant conditions, advertising and complaining about one’s demands do not work since few people are willing to compromise their interests to meet these demands, and even if they are, the demands can hardly be fully gratified.

Complaint does not work when there is a genuine difference of interests between two parties. Jack Welch, the former CEO of General Electric, revitalized the company by taking actual actions instead of complaining about the hideous situation. Before Welch took office, bureaucracy dominated the company and senior officials took complete control of everything; the management hierarchy was divided into nine levels, seriously delaying the carrying out of decision. Deeply realizing the defects in management, Welch determined to eliminate inefficiency by decentralizing power and dismissing workers. However, he didn’t complain about the declining trend or explain his strategy to other managers, thinking they wouldn’t possibly support him since their interests would be sacrificed. Instead, he resolutely carried out his plan: he made sure that every employee had a voice to enhance their enthusiasm; besides, the hierarchy was reduced to four levels, which resulted in a quick response to the market. While Welch inevitably encountered objection and criticism during the process, he focused on his actual actions instead of empty words. Eventually, GE had gone from a market value of $14 billion to one of more than$ 410 billion at the end of Welch’s tenure. If Welch had complained to other managers, he might have not only provoked more objection to his proposal, but diminished his resolution as well. By keeping relatively quiet, he made time to concentrate on his actions and delicately put his plan into practice, thus reviving the company from the verge of bankruptcy.

Even though some people do want to answer our voice and meet our needs, they cannot truly disperse the dark cloud in our heart. Nicholas Vujicic transcended his disability through his own endeavor. Born without all four limbs, he was often derided as trash and a liability for his family, which condemned Vujicic to depression and pessimism. He whined about how God had discarded him and how gloomy his future was. Although his parents had strived to meet his demands, they could hardly cure his pain psychologically. A turning point came when he saw a newspaper article about a man dealing with his severe disability. Vujicic was touched and started to embrace and surpass his disability. He actively participated in sports and managed to take care of his daily activities such as brushing teeth and picking up phone all by himself. Then, he shared his stories by delivering speeches to inspire people with similar misfortune. In his relentless efforts, he found the meaning of life and eventually transcended his disability both physically and psychologically. Despite his parents’ empathetic attempt of gratifying Vujicic’s desires, they still failed to appease his discontent and hollowness inside. It is after Vujicic put away his whining that he started to confront his adversity and spare no efforts to surpass it.

In conclusion, complaint is not an advisable solution to solve problems or get what we want in some significant situations. Whether you are a leader in a particular field or a common person in everyday life, you had better take actual measures to realize your objectives instead of taking advantage of others’ sympathy by complaining.
