Topic 议题:whether vampire squids are indeed feed on marine snow.
  Reading Listening
Sub-point 1
  分论点1
Since marine snow lives in the deep ocean, Vampire squids will die because of lack of oxygen. Different from many ocean predators which need to exert their muscle energy when they chase prey, it is not necessary for the vampire squids to chase prey. It is because marine snow would flow down constantly in minimum oxygen zones. So they require less oxygen to survive in the deep ocean.
Sub-point2
  分论点2
Vampire squids would be in danger because of predators. The squids can be protected against the danger of keeping motionless to feed. It is difficult for the predators to spot the dark-colored squids in the deep waters where is lack of light. Also, the squids can produce natural light on their body surfaces to scare predators when they are spotted by predators.
Sub-point 3
  分论点3
Vampire squids, which belong to groups of cephalopods, have different diet from other cephalopods. The special diet of squids brings them a big advantage to compete for food with other animals. The reason is that they live in an area of the ocean in which most other animals cannot survive.

The writer and the speaker have a debate on vampire squids. The writer points out that they are indeed feed on marine snow, which is opposed by the following lecture.

First, the writer claims that since marine snow lives in the deep ocean, Vampire squids will die because of lack of oxygen. While the speaker views this issue from an opposite angle, according to him/her, different from many ocean predators which need to exert their muscle energy when they chase prey, it is not necessary for the vampire squids to chase prey. It is because marine snow would flow down constantly in minimum oxygen zones. So they require less oxygen to survive in the deep ocean.

Secondly, the passage states that vampire squids would be in danger because of predators. However, the speaker casts doubt on this opinion by saying that the squids can be protected against the danger of keeping motionless to feed. It is difficult for the predators to spot the dark-colored squids in the deep waters where is lack of light. Also, the squids can produce natural light on their body surfaces to scare predators when they are spotted by predators.

Last, the writer argues that vampire squids, which belong to groups of cephalopods, have different diet from other cephalopods. By contrast, in accordance with the speaker, this claim does not hold water. The special diet of squids brings them a big advantage to compete for food with other animals. The reason is that they live in an area of the ocean in which most other animals cannot survive.

  2016年12月3日托福独立写作范文

Philanthropic and charitable activities of all forms are applauded and cherished by people. When it comes to the question of whether or not people are more willing to help others, there is not definitive to this question. I, personally, am very affirmative that people are generally more charitable than the past based on the following reasons.

First off, currently, not only do schools and universities encourage students to get involved in volunteer and charitable activities, but they tend to evaluate students’ engagement in these activities together with their academic performance. For instance, a high school in my neighborhood offer students various volunteer programs and students are very actively involved. To be more specific, students can help to collect food, manage the inventory and distribute food to those in need. They can also volunteer in homeless shelters to prepare food or even work behind the scene in the business office. There are other volunteering activities, like organizing community activities for senior centers, reshelving books in the city library, helping kids with dyslexia to read, so on and so forth. With these programs offered by the schools, students of all age groups are motivated to take the initiative and contribute their time and other resources to the community. Such a philanthropic atmosphere can be very contagious and people who hesitate in the first place tend to give it a second thought and get involved in these charitable activities.

Secondly, nowadays people are generally getting richer and wealthier in the past, and had they not owned a bigger house or a fancier sports car, they would not have been willing to reach out and donate their money to people in need and to those who are less fortunate and underprivileged. Furthermore, taxation law and other kinds of favorable financial policies tend to give incentive to rich people to donate their wealth to the poor and unlucky individuals. No wonder lots of charitable foundations like the Bill and Melanda Foundation play such a vital role to eliminate poverty and hunger.

In conclusion, with proper guidance from school and universities and the appearance of the enormous number of the rich, people are generally more willing to help others.
