  作文题目:

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is as important for older people to study and learn new things as it is for young people.

  Agree:

As it is said, it is never too late to learn. It is universally applied that an acquiring mind and willingness to explore novel things are highly appreciated for everyone especially senior citizens in a world when change is daily occurrence. From my own perspective, elderly people are supposed to keep studying and learning, instead of simply enjoying their retirement time and vocation, owing to the following reasons.

First of all, learning new skills can emancipate young people from trivialities of looking after the seniors. Without acquisition of new skills, the elderly members of the family find themselves left alone home and no one can assist in case that they were ill or puzzled with using perplex devices. Nevertheless, by learning the basics of the latest living skills, the elderly could have a better sense of independence, no longer having to rely on the younger family members to take care or to teach them how use high-tech gadgets. For instance, studying computer-based technologies enables elders to do some daily tasks such as bathing and cooking independently, and learning Internet empowers seniors to get in touch with latest news and distant friends by themselves.

What is more, the process as well the result of learning new things offer old people mental satisfaction and fulfillment. Since the changeable and commercial world runs faster, some elders without any new perspectives and knowledge face with increasing loneliness in their inner world, frustrating and struggling to find a topic the young generation. My grandfather, who rejected to learn new things at the beginning, is a good case in point. In gathering of our extended family, so obsolete he was when others were talking about online shopping and superstars. Now he has successfully joined our conversation since he began to learn how to choose online commodities rationally and who EXO is.

Granted, it is conceded that acquiring new things must be a tremendous challenge both physically and psychologically. The obvious decline in the elders’ capacities to comprehend and master skills kills their learning ability, leading to a slow studying and therefore a great waste of time. However, the disadvantage could shift to a blessing if viewed from a different angle. No longer obliged to maintain the edge of their employment skills, elderly people are leading a lonely and meaningless life. With fully involved in learning new things, seniors’ former boring retirement time will be more colorful and enriched.

In conclusion, I should reiterate that as a life-long process, learning can produce a far-reaching impact on older people, which will benefit them in fostering adaptability to the fast-changing world, and achieving their life goal in a more meaningful way.
