乔治亚州立大学位于亚特兰大市商业区――美国东南部地区主要的政治、经济、商业、卫生和法律中心，这里名师荟萃、研究项目欣欣向荣，为学生创造了有益的学习机会。乔治亚州立大学本科学生参与研究项目比率高，被卡耐基基金会评为“研究成果表现突出且注重本科研究项目的研究型大学”。
在乔治亚州立大学，国际学生可以参加我校的英语强化课程（IEP），来提高自身英语水平，在完成我校的IEP课程后，学生不再需要参加英语语言能力测试，便可继续我校的本科或是研究生院学习。学生可以根据自身情况，申请春季、夏季或是秋季的IEP课程，该课程从初级到高级共分为5个级别，同时培养学生的写作、阅读和口语交际能力，为学生为随后的专业课程学习做好准备。
乔治亚州立大学所处的亚特兰大既是一座历史名城，也是一个新兴的工商业城市和文化、医疗卫生中心。1836年作为铁路终点站而兴建，是南北战争(1861-1865)时南方军的战略要地。毁于南北战争，后再重建。美国东南部陆空交通要地、金融中心。近二十年来，随北方工商业和人口南迁，发展迅速，有飞机、汽车、纤维、机械、钢铁、食品等工业。洛克希德飞机公司和可口可乐公司总部设此。有乔治亚州理工学院（建于1885年）和亚特兰大大学中心。多博物馆和公园。旅游业发达。2007年9月6日与我国成都市结为友好城市。
亚特兰大属副热带潮湿气候，代表美国东南部气候，四季分明，夏季闷热，冬季平时温和。一月平均温为 5.9 °C，但在冬天高温能达 18 °C 以上；低温有时低于 -5 °C。七月平均温为 26.7 °C。
在亚特兰大驻扎的著名公司有：奥尔德卡斯尔公司、汉森（汽车公司） 、金银花冰淇淋、快捷假日酒店、可口可乐等。
