弗朗西斯马里恩大学成立于1970年，是南卡罗来纳州的13个州支持大学之一。作为州的6个综合性教育机构之一，弗朗西斯马里恩大学以提供强大的文科教育为傲。弗朗西斯马里恩大学是以独立战争英雄-弗朗西斯马里恩将军的名字命名的，他也有“沼泽之狐”的称号。学校每年招收4000多名学生，为学员提供了非常广泛的学科，主要授予学士学位，同时也有一些支持皮迪区域社区、企业和行业的研究生学位。
